The humanities, made personal.
JibunJinbun is a publisher, media company and education company based in Tokyo. We help people use philosophy, history, literature and the social sciences to think about their own lives.
Make the humanities your own
Our motto is Jinbun-gaku o, jibun-goto ni: “make the humanities your own.” The humanities are not only for specialists. They give everyone ways to work through their own questions, understand other people and take part in public conversation. We make books, articles and workshops that anyone can use, whatever their age or background.
Four areas of work
Publishing
Books and web articles that connect researchers with general readers, from secondary-school students to adults.
Workshops
Philosophical dialogue, reading groups and inquiry workshops for schools, universities, museums and companies.
Education programs
Programs designed with schools and companies around their own questions, from inquiry-based learning to staff training.
Technology
Tools and platforms that make research in the humanities easier to find and use.
From a student exhibition to a publisher
JibunJinbun began in 2018 as a student project at the University of Tokyo. Our exhibition introducing humanities research at the university festival drew 1,500 visitors in three days. After the members graduated, we founded the company in 2024 and published our first book in August 2025.
